My kids were beyond excited when they saw this fellow in the front garden. Woodpeckers are shy, so I couldn't get very close to him to take a picture. And he flew away when I tried to get closer. When we checked the birdfeeder, we could tell he'd been at it. What's even better is that the next day, there was a pair of them in the front yard.

Alas, that is the last we've seen of them.

I bought this fabric at an African import store in Oakland, but I'm not sure what to do with it, other than a quilted wall hanging sort of thing, which I really don't want to do. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of fabric? And say, washing it? Oakland, California boasts the oldest storybook park in the country. Fairyland is 55 years old. I used to go when I was little. Does anyone else remember Popo the clown? Fairyland has had a hard time the couple of decades. It is being refurbished, and I hope to see it change to reflect the diversity of Oakland. It's a wonderful place to take your children.
